Trip Report 7th -11th September. Bit higgledy piggledy!

We arrived at Vegas on 7th September about midday. Took a showtime shuttle to The Luxor, which was relatively easy! The queue for check in at the Luxor was enormous, but it did go down quite quickly. (we were lucky, the next day I saw the queue was stretching right back to the entrance of the casino!).

We were allotted room 11025 on the 11th floor of the pyramid, he fella told me it would be an additional $20 a night to stay in the tower, but we were happy enough in the pyramid. Our ‘inclinator’ was right on the opposite side of the casino and it took us about 15 minutes to find it!

Our room was lovely, 2 huge beds, an absolutely massive shower and it was very clean. Our room overlooked the Mandalay bay and TheHotel Mandalay bay. It was a nice view, but I would have preferred a room overlooking the strip, although we spent so little time in there, it didn’t really matter!

As soon as we settled in, we took a walk up the strip, a very, very long walk! First we hit Excalibur, the walked over to New York New York and headed straight to the Manhattan Express. We didn’t have to wait in a queue, which was a good thing because it gave me less time to frighten myself! It cost $12 each and was worth every single penny! It was absolutely amazing, but I couldn’t speak properly for the next hour through screaming so much! We walked right up to the Venetian and popped into Paris, Harrah’s and a couple of others along the way and were blown away by all of them. The shops in the Miracle Mile, were excellent and the shops in the Venetian were marvellous. We decided not to have a gondola ride, despite the fact there was no queue. (We planned on going back a few days later, but never did unfortunately!).

We had some dinner in the pyramid cafĂ© in the Luxor, and the steak was absolutely perfect, definitely the nicest steak I’ve ever had!

The next few days have all merged into one, but a basic rundown is this:

Visited the Silverton Lodge to go to the Bass Pro shop. What a fantastic shop! If you are in to the outdoors, fishing and all that malarkey then you definitely need to go! I enjoyed the first 30 minutes, but then I got bored and went to sleep on one of the extremely comfortable rocking chairs. My girlfriend liked it a lot more than me because she was ages in there and spent a huge wedge of money! The taxi from the Luxor cost about $17 with tip and was a little less on the way back.

Because we booked with Virgin holidays we had 2 complimentary passes to the Luxor Spa, which we took full advantage of. We were very lucky because there was no one else in there! We had the Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room all to ourselves! It was amazing in there! My skin was glowing and it was well earned because of all the walking we’d done! I would happily have paid to go in and if you’re looking for a bit of relaxation then I highly recommend it! We also went in the Luxor pool, I don’t know if I missed some of it, but it wasn’t as big as I thought it would be.

Took the deuce to circus circus (more on that later) and then walked up to the stratosphere. That was a very long walk in 110 degree heat! Paid to get to the observation deck and go on one ride, I think it was $17 and was well worth it. The observation tower was fantastic – floor to ceiling sloped windows and you have a magnificent view. We chose to go on X-Scream. I can honestly tell you, it was without a doubt the most terrifying experience of my life. I was screaming for my mum and I’m 25 years old.

We had a champagne brunch at the Luxor for $18 each and was fantastic. Where else can you be drunk at 9.30am and not feel guilty?! We also ate at the circus circus buffet, which was OK but nothing special. Speaking of Circus Circus, we were so excited to go on the rides, but what a disappointment! We paid $28 for two rides and ended up giving 2 tickets away because we were so annoyed with the attitude of one of the employees.

This is something a little spooky: We have a suitcase lock that required you to set 3 numbers in a row, now one day I locked my suitcase and rolled the numbers round randomly, when I came back later that day and opened the lock, the 3 numbers were on 777 (I swear!!) Now, I don’t know if this is something the housekeeper does, but later that night we put a 90cent bet on the penny machine and won $154!! It was only when I looked up that I realised we were on the 777 machine! Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

Visited M’n’M world, Coca Cola World, Bonanza gift shop. Saw the fountains at the Bellagio and the Volcano at the Mirage. Walked through the Hawaiian marketplace which was wonderful.

As far as gambling is concerned, we were too scared to play the tables, so we played on the penny slots and nickels instead! Sometimes we even dared play on the quarters and when we felt especially daring we had a little flutter on the dollar slots! Ha ha. With the win I mentioned above we won back everything we had bet throughout our stay and a few dollar more!

The best way to get around is the deuce bus which just goes up and down the strip and makes lots of stops along the way, the drivers are really good and friendly and are always ready to help and advise. Trying to cross the road on the strip is incredibly difficult. We wanted to get to Treasure Island from the opposite side and we had to cross 3 enormous roads which took about 20 minutes!

Overall, Las Vegas was without a doubt the best place I have ever been in my life and I am already looking at booking another holiday at Christmas.

I apologise for rambling and for the fact my review is all higgledy piggledy but, you get the idea! I’m sure if I have forgotten something I will add it later!

Great trip report. I%26#39;m not one for rides, but glad they were fun. The 777 is a bit wierd.

GREAT TR! Thank you for sharing! The Manhattan Express is such a fun ride! My daughter and I got a day-pass, and rode it a bazillion times! LOVED IT!

I would NEVER, and I mean......NEVER EVER EVER ride that X-Scream! EVER! The only ride I might have been convinced to ride on the Strat would have been the roller-coaster that circled around and around....but...now it%26#39;s gone. OH, WELL!!

That%26#39;s awesome about the ';777'; coinidence!

Glad you had a good time, and are already planning your next trip!!

Great report...lol on the 777 did you check and make sure your knickers will still inside?

Let me tell you, I will NEVER EVER go on the X scream again, we bought the souvenir photo because the picture is absolutely hilarious, you can see the pure fear on our faces, I could hear the people watching laughing at me and I was full of venom for them, but i know I would have been the same! They made me take my glasses off which was probably a good thing because I couldn%26#39;t see much, but there%26#39;s no getting away from the fact that you voluntarily PAY to throw yourself off a building (sort of) at 1000ft up. My shreddies were still in my case thank goodness, but it was a bit weird to say the least!

Excellent TR, you sure are brave going on the X-Scream, I get frightened just looking up at it... you sure seemed to go all over and get alot done while you were there even getting a ';flutter'; on the dollar machines, and great you went home winners. No wonder you can hardly wait to go back !!

Thanks for the trip report.

I agree bout the rides up the strat. My brother and I went on Insanity followed by X Scream. Insanity was scary, I was really scared and felt a little sick but still managed to enjoy the view suspended 1000ft in the air face down at the floor whilst spinning in a circle. After this X scream was a breeze. Although I have a very funny camcording of us on the rides taken by two people that are so scared of heights they are clinging onto each other whilst filming.

At one point you hear one of them say ';P gives us a wave';, my brother turns and lifts one hand nervously off the bar to wave and just manages to grab the bar again as we are flung forward. On the video all you can hear is the two of them practically hysterical!

We are there again in just over a week but I cannot (as of yet) convince anyone to go back on the rides with me!

The stratosphere observation deck I agree is a must do.

I can%26#39;t believe you rode on X-sceam. I was screaming watching the riders.

I enjoyed your report, great detail and info

I really enjoyed the TR. Next time don%26#39;t be skeered and play some table games. It%26#39;s really fun and you can whoop it up with your table mates.

Good TR have not done the x-scream yet but i will on my next visit.

I will be staying at the luxor oct 8th-12th what can you tell me about it the good and bad if any. I will be staying in the tower room

Do they offer any 2 for 1

Thanks for any info
