Tahoe newbie questions

Howdy! We%26#39;re Vegas veterans, but have never been to the Tahoe area before and were considering giving it a shot. Just a few quickies for anyone who%26#39;d care to answer for us...

1) What is there to do in the warmer months? We don%26#39;t ski, so no point flying out there in the snowy weather.

2) What are the busy season and slow seasons in Tahoe?

3) What is a nice, upscale resort in Tahoe, comparable to a nice Vegas hotel?

Thanks a lot for any input! :-)

Tahoe newbie questions

There is nothing in Tahoe that is comparable to Tahoe. Tahoe is primarily a mountain resort that happens to have some casinos. You%26#39;ll not find entertainment or gaming at the caliber of Vegas. The summer months of July and August are the most busy with June and Sept a distant second. May and Oct/Nov are slower still and April and the end of Nov everyone hopes ther ei snow. Dec through March there is generally good snow with the best bets after Christmas.

In Tahoe during warmer months there are all kinds of water sports. hiking, fishing and sunbathing.

The Hyatt is a nice place on the norht side. It has a very small casino but you%26#39;d have to drive if you wanted to see another one. At south shore the biggies are Harveys, Harrahs and Mont Bleu.

I think it would better to say : There is nothing in Vegas that is comparable to Tahoe.

Vegas and Tahoe are much different. If you are looking for a Las Vegas expierence at Lake Tahoe you will be disapointed. However, the lake area is just beautiful, and if you come out here take advantage of the great outdoors, lake and beautiful scenery. Hit the casino after dark.

Give it a try.

LOL I was strictly speaking to the casino situation. Just trying to be honest for the folks who want the Vegas experience in Tahoe. As I stated, Tahoe is a mountain community that happens to have casinos.

Thanks for the replies!

When I was comparing Tahoe to Vegas, I meant just in terms of a decent resort with nice amenities (as opposed to Gambling Heaven). The Montbleu website looks real nice, but some of the reviews on TA have spooked me.

I see Vegas as having lots of amenities that you%26#39;d typically find in a warm climate location. Since Tahoe is warm only a few months per year there is not a big investment in things like pools etc. What would be the most important amenities? The hotels are much smaller in comparison to Vegas.

The Marriott Timber Lodge in South Lake Tahoe is very nice, I have a review of our stay there this past May. We enjoyed 3 nights here and it was very nice. We enjoyed driving around the lake, meals at Evan%26#39;s, Cafe Fiore, 19 Kitchen and the Red Hut Waffle Shop, spa treatments at the Hyatt, lunch at the Lone Eagle Grill and the buffet at Harrah%26#39;s for breakfast.

We also very much enjoyed a cruise on the MS Dixie II that leavs from Zephyr Cove, NV. You will love Lake Tahoe, May was a great time to visit, we were able to see/do a lot with virtually no croweds. Have fun, :)
