Going to Vegas

Hubby and I are going to Vegas for the first time hopefully in the next 2 months. Need help from experienced Vegas travelers. Need to know a good place to stay for the first time, also a safe place. Want to stay on the strip in a ';fancy'; place the first time. Also, is Oct-Nov a good time to go? or is it better later on?

Also we like to ';let our hair down';, not really interested in the ';normal tourist'; attractions.

Any advice and information will be very helpful to us. Finally got through raising kids.

Thank you

Going to Vegas

The Paris seems like a natural for you.

Going to Vegas

LOL Chitown!!!!

lookingforfun, Oct-Nov is a great time to go but due to the perfect weather and the large number of conventions it%26#39;s expensive. Hotel rates drop after Thanksgiving and the two weeks immediately after the National Finals Rodeo ends in mid December is the cheapest time of the year to visit Vegas.

What you need to tell us is how many nights you%26#39;re looking at, approx dates and an rough total accommodation budget. Remember that weekends are expensive - a room that%26#39;s say $99 per night Sunday thru Thursay can easily be $299 per night on Friday and Saturday. Stick with this forum and you%26#39;ll get great advice!

The strip, between MB (to the south) and Strat (to the North) is safe, no matter where you stay.

With the exception of the weekend after Thanksgiving, probably November rates will be lower than October.

Depending on your budget, I would recommend Bellagio (high end), or Paris

Go to the Cheapolasvegas website.

Not only do they have funny and accurate descriptions of the various hotels as part of an interactive map, they also provide a link to each hotel’s website

Follow that link and go to each hotel’s website and signup for e-mail specials, a mailing list for special offers and deals.

Many hotels allow you to signup at one hotel and get offers from all the related sites.

This works for MGM/Mirage, Harrah’s, Boyd families of hotels and a few others.

Check the reviews both here and on other sites.

Take the reviews with a grain of salt as some reviewers can be whinny about the smallest things.

If things look ok, then book directly through the hotels after first checking their cancellation policy.

For airfare I go to Expedia and put in flexible dates, this gives the lowest price for a month and the cost can vary by hundreds of dollars day to day due to supply and demand.

With this just as a guide, as they only offer the lowest price at the most inconvenient times, you can see what dates are probably out of your budget.

Keep the forum posted.

Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, all top of the line places to stay

Bellagio my favorite of those three

That said...I also like to recommend Mandalay Bay, The Paris, and Ceasars Palace.

Its easier to tell you where not to stay for a first visit. The budget hotels I%26#39;d avoid are Circus Circus, Riviera, Sahara, Imperial Palace, Luxor, Excalibur, The Stratosphere.

There are a couple off strip hotels that are worth a look as well. Green Valley Ranch, and Red Rock Station are great choices. Good Luck!

I would also include the historic Downtown over the outlying hotels but for your first stay maybe something more centrally located on the Strip. Maybe the Monte Carlo.or Treasure Island.

It pays to signup for those e-mail offers.

I just got an e-mail offer from MGM for 99 dollar rooms and some nice extras.

If you want fancy, then stay at Wynn or Bellagio, I%26#39;d give the nod to Bellagio though due to it%26#39;s prime location on the strip and proximity to being able to walk to places like Casear%26#39;s, the Venetian, Paris, etc. You%26#39;re also right near the Forum Shops at Caesar%26#39;s and the shops at Bellagio are %26#39;to die for.%26#39; ;)

I know Downtown better than the Strip.

Listen to Gabby, she knows the Strip much better than I do and has such nice legs too.
