Reno-ElDorado here we come!

Tomorrow is the big day, that we make our trip down to Carson City, Virginia City, Tahoe of course Reno.

Our plan is to take in the air races on Fri. a friend of ours that races in the competion every will be racing that day, and we have known each other ever since first grade, and grew up as neighbors.

That Fri. eve. we are going to El Dorado to gamble and probably eat dinner there. Sat. we are going to go and see the remaining sites.

When we get back next week I will post my reviews.

I am looking forward to having a great time.

Reno-ElDorado here we come!

Looking forward to your trip report. Have a great time. Oh don%26#39;t forget to checkout Grandma%26#39;s Fudge factory in Virginia City mmmm good.

Reno-ElDorado here we come!

As promised, here is my review. We arrived Thurs. afternoon, in Dayton, NV. This is where our youngest son and daughter in law moved to in May. Wow, the growth that is booming there, is amazing. They had dinner prepared for our arrival. Our daughter in law, had to go to work, as she is a nurse at the hospital in Carson City. After supper we got a tour of Dayton, and that of Carson City. Some very beautiful buildings there. And then we went to do some gamlbling at the Fundango. I hope that I spelled that correctly. It was very nice in there, although the machines were pretty tight. So, we didn%26#39;t stay long. From there we went to the Nuggett. A quaint old casino, that had seen better times. But that was okay too. I did hit a $100 jackpot on a penny machine. And I came home with it too! We didn%26#39;t get back home until about 4:00 am. So if that is any indication, we did have a good time.

Fri. We didn%26#39;t wake soon enough to attend the Air Races as planned, and I guess that fate played a hand in our not going, becasue I received a phone call just before noon, from our son here in Idaho, telling me the tragic news about Gary Hubler that was killed in the races Fri. morn. I considered him like a brother, we had grown up together, starting from the first grade. We were neighbors and graduated from High School together, 34 yrs ago. I can%26#39;t describe the loss. My heart breaks for this whole family. I just can%26#39;t imagine the pain that they are going through. This wasn%26#39;t the first loss to this family due to air plane crashes. Well over 20 yrs. ago, Gary lost his younger brother due to a crop dusting accident. And then just 11 yrs ago, his middle son John was killed in a plane accident as well. I know that this Hubler family will make it through this horrible ordeal because they are a very close knit family.

Please say a prayer for them.

After several hours of sobbing, I pulled myself together, and decided that it wasn%26#39;t doing anyone any good to cry, so I said let%26#39;s just carry on with our plans.

We went up to Virginia City. Oh, how I loved seeing that town. I felt like I was stepping back into the old west days. The town was much larger than I had anticipated. Of course it%26#39;s very touristy, but that%26#39;s how they make a living, right. We ate at a Chinese restaurant, it was just ok. Probably wouldn%26#39;t go back there again. It drives me insane, when the containers that hold ketchup and mustard, salt and pepper etc. are NOT washed off, in between guests arrival. And another thing, that I wish that ALL establishments, that serve food/ drinks would train the staff, that when drinks of any kind are served DO NOT place it on the table with the employees grasping the vessel around the rim. Hold the coffee cup, water glass, or drinks down at the bottom of the container. I don%26#39;t know where there hands have been! I watched three waitress at Harrah%26#39;s in Reno play with their hair, one messed with her nose, and fiddled with her pants.........then and went and served food with these same hands. I find this kind of action unacceptable. It is not sanitary at all. And you can make sure that I don%26#39;t even entertain the thought of returning to your establishment to eat.

Okay, that%26#39;s enough ranting.

Fri. evening: We did drive down to Reno. It had been over 30 years ago, since I had been there. I didn%26#39;t even recognize it. So many changes, they have huge casinos everywhere and the growth was unbelievable. Let me tell you, several weeks ago I received an email from El Dorado Chad. The family owner of El Dorado and the Silver Legacy casinos, he told me that they wer a family owned business. (Please forgive me, if I left out another possible casino that is owned by them) I was expecting just your average ';casino';. Was I ever suprised, If you are thinking of going to Reno, please stop in and check these places out! You will not be disappointed. Oh the buildings are so gorgeous, and the servers were so prompt, and very polite. I must admit that we didn%26#39;t get to gamble as long as I would have liked there, because I did win a little there. So from there we went to Cal-Neva. It was an older establishment, nothing fancy there, and their servers were very scarce and none of us encountered one with a friendly personality. Not even a thank from the tips that we gave. We had some winners in our group, and after this ol gal, not used to staying up in the wee hours of the morning, I was exausted at 5:00 am when we left there. (This is the time I get up in the mornings, not going to bed). We still had about an hours drive ahead of us.

Oh, I forgot to mention that unfortunatly (sp) I was out voted and we didn%26#39;t get to eat at El Dorado. Instead about 1:30 am we ate at Harrah%26#39;s across the street from Cal-Neva. The sandwich that we had was good, but the service and the time that it took to receive the food, wasn%26#39;t worth going again. It took them 35 min. for us to get a club sandwich, and there was only about 1/2 doz. in the dining area with us.

Sat. our son and his wife took us out to Lake Tahoe. I am telling you, what a beautiful sight! I have never seen such breath taking water. It is so blue, that it%26#39;s so hard to describe! It was better than I had imagined. We took the Miss Dixie on the 2 1/2 hr ride. I would recommend this to everyone. You won%26#39;t be disappointed. The beauty that surrounds the water and the steep mountains, just create a serenity that leaves you begging for more. I wonder what it looks like in the winter time, when the mountains are covered in a white blanket of snow?

I was hoping that we could eat at a nice place in Tahoe afterwards. What was I thinking, when you have a son and daughter in law that are in their mid twenties. Their idea of a reallly good place to eat was at a Sports Bar!!!!???? Now, I don%26#39;t know if the outcome would have been the same, if they knew in advance that good old Dad and Mom were footing the bill. But lets just say, that I am sure there were other places to eat, and leave it at that.

We gambled at the Horizon for about 7 hrs. You gotta try the horse racing, where you place your bets and holler like anyone can hear you at these horses that run around a race track. It was fun at first, but I just like playing the penny slots. I think my odds are better there.

After a flurry of lots of fun, and the wonderful sites that we got to see. I enjoyed all but the part of my childhood friends death. I look forward to going back next year, and I kow that there was alot that we didn%26#39;t get to see. But I did come back with $140.00 more than I went down there with. Lot%26#39;s of good memories.

It%26#39;s not a place that I would want to live, especially when we got home and the view out my kitchen window of the lush green alfalfa fields, the cut corn fields and the cattle grazing out in the pasture, along with the beauty of our Owyhee mountains in the distance, nothing can take the place of what we have right here in our own back yard!

Hope that you all aren%26#39;t bored out of your ever loving minds by this review. We really did have a wonderful time. Thanks for reading this.

Nice Report %26amp; my sympathy%26#39;s as to your friend. Understand there was a second death later in the weekend. Sad!

Thank you for your thoughts. It%26#39;s a comfort to know that even in this crazy world that we live in, that strangers can reach out to one another, and provide comfort.

Perhaps we don%26#39;t live in an uncaring world after all.

My condolences on your friend%26#39;s untimely death. As much as we realize deep down that accidents like this can happen, it never makes it any easier.

So glad that you enjoyed yourself at Lake Tahoe - it%26#39;s one of the jewels of the western United States, much to the credit of all of the hard working people who work to maintain it%26#39;s beauty. And yes, there are a number of nice eating establishments a step or two above sports bars, but the main thing was spending time with family.

Thanks for the trip report!

Thank you so much for your kind words. It means alot to me that my review was read, and all of you let me share in my grief. Your tenderness touches my heart, and I appreciate it very much.

Your last sentence struck me, and you are totally correct, when you said that he really doesn%26#39;t matter where we eat, it comes down to enjoying our family, and connecting with them. Once again, I am reminded that life is short, enjoy each and every day that we are given, and don%26#39;t forget to say I love you.

Thank you again.
