Minimum Stake

Could anyone out there give me any advice about minimum stakes on gaming tables. Never been to Las Vegas before, received some great advice yesterday [ for novices ] tellin me slot machines are a good starting point. However it was mentioned that some hotels run introductory lessons on tables. Now I quite fancy trying my luck with roulette. What is an average minimum stake ?

Minimum Stake

It all depends on when and where. You will find lower minimum bets in the daytime than in the evening and at off-Strip and Downtown casinos. On the Strip, ';lower end'; places like O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s and Casino Royale will have lower minimums than the likes of Caesars or Bellagio.

Roulette minimums generally refer to the total outlay of your bets, ie a $5 minimum can mean five seperate $1 dollar bets.

Minimum Stake

While slots are fun they can eat up your money fast, many people play them and at times they can pay back a nice amount of money depending on what denomination your playing. Try playing some nickel slots just to get use to them then if you feel lucky step up to the quarter ones on up. Slots require a certain number of coins so Be aware to put the maximum coin in to get the maximum money out if you hit a jackpot. Stay away from the machines that require more then 3 coins in to start with until you get more experienced at them. Remember LV was built on slot machines so go easy at first..

Have fun

Keep in mind that the casinos have the edge when it comes to slots, they are the easiest way to lose money, too. Starting with the 5 cent machines (play 9 lines, 1 credit per line) is a good place to start.

you need to read experts on gambling. If someone told you slots were a good starting point and you thiunk that is ';great advice'; you truly need to get educated elsewhere. slots are HORRIBLE odds for the player.

www.wizardsofodds.com great introduction and clearly explains all games

www.bj21.com blackjack info and strategy

www.bobdancer.com video poker expert

rouleete is also horrible - read the wizard. you may decide you don%26#39;t have time to learn a table game like BJ - fine. play craps, the few good bets (the wizard will tell you) and have a blast.

once you become educated and you decide you don%26#39;t mind the odds on slots and roulette at least you are making a decision based on the info you have - both are totally random and you need to know nothing - no decision-making at all. same on craps. blackjack and video poker you need to make decisions based on the cards - and play them expertly.

pai gow poker is game you can play forever on a small bankroll - the dealer and other players help, odss not great but many like it for slow speed of game and low volatility.

baccarat another easy - and great odds for player. Banker and that%26#39;s it.

I agree with Bridgefan. Gambling in LV or any other place should be considered a form of entertainment. Thus the goal is to get the most entertaiment for the money allocated for this entertainment. Knowing the odds of each game, and basic stratagy is your best course of action.

BlackJack, Pai Gow Poker, Craps (certain bets) and Baccarat offer the least house advantage. Again, the type of bet and basic stratagy is also important to know. Poker is a game of skill, as you are playing against other players, and do not need the best hand to win. If you are not familiar with poker, some casinos have beginner tables.

There is much information on the various games, odds, and staratagies on the net and in books. If you assume this is a source of entertainment, keep to your entertainment budget, and understand basic odds, you will stretch your entertainment budget farther. And, sometimes you beat the odds, and come out with more than you started with.

If you intend to play for a while, it%26#39;s usually a good idea to buy in for at least 10 to 20 times the minimum bet regardless of which game you play.

Great advice so far.

Bridgefan is correct that the casino%26#39;s edge for slots is often pretty high.

What you need to do is to spend some time learning (the Wizard of Odds site that BridgeFan recommended is great!). Learn basic BJ strategy (it is very simple), and learn the pass bet plus odds for craps.

The casino%26#39;s edge for a lot of the popular bets in craps is obscenely high. Stick with the pass line plus odds, and then a couple of place bets if you need more excitement. But avoid all of the bets in the center section -- the hard ways, the horn, C %26amp; E, etc. All of the proposition bets handled by the ';stickman'; are bad bets.

Roulette is a no-brainer -- that is, there are no decisions you can make, it is pure luck.

Stratton is right about the session stake, but you don%26#39;t need to buy it all in at once. If you are playing $5 BJ, you need a session bankroll of about $100. If you are playing at a $5 table, but you are playing $15 per hand, you need about $300. PER SESSION.

if you plan on staying in Vegas for four days, and playing twice a day, that means 8 sessions. So your overall gambling bankroll should be 8 times your per session stake.

Some rules you should seriously consider:

Only carry one session%26#39;s stake with you. Leave the others in the safe. That way, you can%26#39;t gamble more than you are willing to put at risk in that session.

Set a stop loss and a stop win. For example, you might have a session stake of $300, but you might decide that if you are down $200, you are quitting. You also might decide that if you are up by $150 (half your session stake), you are going to take the winnings and enjoy them. The stop win is VERY important for slots; so many people win a small jackpot and then give it all back, plus their buy-in, trying for the big jackpot.

Money you have won -- it is NOT the casino%26#39;s money, it is your money. Don%26#39;t get reckless and throw it away because it it THEIR money. Once you win it, it is yours, just like the money you worked hard for at your job. It is your money, treat it with respect.

Don%26#39;t chase your losses.

Don%26#39;t get too drunk while gambling. Or at least, recognize the consequences and make up your mind about mixing booze and gambling while you are sober.

Most important, have a heck of lot of fun!! That%26#39;s what it is all about!
