During my last Vegas trip I paid a visit to the Rio, so I am slightly familiar with the area. I intend to visit the Rio again during my Christmas vacation and would like to check out the Palms the same day. I seem to remember a cross walk some distance back toward the Vegas strip. If I head up Flamingo Rd toward the Palms will I find a cross walk closer to the Palms. Also how safe is it crossing Flamingo, taking into consideration I鈥檓 a slow walker. I鈥檝e done dive walks so street people I might encounter aren鈥檛 a major concern. However, an idiot behind the wheel of a 3000 pound machine could inflect serious damage on this old body. I know it鈥檚 possible to get a cab from the Rio to the Palms. I just hate to pull a cabbie out of line for such a small fare, when I know the trip is well within walking range, but if I must I must.
cross walks at the Rio
There are a few crosswalks between Palms and Rio. I would cross over to Gold Coast and use one closer to the front door. I felt I has enough time but if you are a slow walker, I would make sure you do this during daylight hours. If you do end up taking a cab, tip extra to make up for the inconvience.
cross walks at the Rio
Lone Traveller1, my husband and I (both 67 at the time) walked from Rio to Palms last year. It%26#39;s an easy walk and although there are no overhead walkways, there are traffic light controlled intersections where you can easily and safely cross Tropicana.
Have fun!

LVegas did youmean Flamingo rather than Tropicana?
Sorrry about the misspell of your name LVeascape!! I was wondering the same thing about walking to the Rio. About how far is it from the LV BLVD? Is that to far to walk?
It is too far to walk from the strip to the Rio and not really safe walking near the interstate. Use the free shuttle instead.
Yep, I meant Flamingo. Really shouldn%26#39;t try to repond to the forum when I am at work, but can%26#39;t stay away.
Have a good day, all!
As leo said you can jump on the shuttle that heads to the Rio from any of the Harrah%26#39;s properties on the Strip. Not a great idea to walk.
I drive in vegas, and I understand your concern. People drive faster than the speed limit on Flamingo, specially after midnight.
But during the day, you will be allright, drivers can see you.
Just use the cross walk with a light
Thanks for the replies guys. 25 DAYS and counting!!!!!!!
Flamingo is a wide street, and the light does not give you much time to cross,I don,t think that you would be comfortable if you had to walk slowly. It makes me a bit nervous crossing there and I have no impediments with my walk!! I now drive across, much safer.
