In ANY Hotel, double check your room is locked

After reading a post that had gotten their room burglarized (we think) after their room was locked. A few years ago, we were staying at a hotel and after the door to the room ';closed shut'; we didn%26#39;t think anything of it. Fortunately our friends were staying beside us and warned us that just because you hear the door close doens%26#39;t mean it%26#39;s LOCKED. So doublecheck to make sure you can%26#39;t get in even --after the door closes on you. Just a precaution.

I always double check plus do the dead bolt if there is one.

Gabby, I am talking about when you%26#39;r leaving your room. Funny, we were at Bill%26#39;s a few short days ago (sigh) and they had no deadbolt, which totally was not to my liking. Oh well, A chair up the knob does the trick :)

We stayed 2 nights at the Venetian this past August and our door actually didn%26#39;t close all the way either when we left. We had to pull it shut after it had already shut to hear that ';click';

Stayed at the Bellagio this summer and the mini bar person left our door wide open for the 3 hours we were at the pool. He arrived to check the mini bar when we were leaving and said he would lock up.

On the positive note, I had 2 laptop Macs, Ipod, and a bottle of Don Julio all with in plain site and it was all there. Can%26#39;t say the Bellagio attracts thieves for guests

Yes always check, we had a trying time at the Tropicana a few years back, becasue the maid came in and hald the handle down, and it ';clicked';, and this in the unlocke mode, security had to reset the door, and explained to us that you hand leave trhe handle down for more than a second cust once it ';clicks'; and the handle is facing down it will leave the lock unlocked no natter howmany times you use the key until they reset it.

This relates to a recent post about the Wynn, where a maid left the room unlocked and things went missing. Wynn said tough luck, we ain’t responsible.

Such crime is a crime of opportunity, so don%26#39;t leave valuables lying around, not ever.

Being a big city boy, I am extra cautious. I trust no one and lock things up in the safe or safe deposit box when I am not using them. I have travel safes that I bring if there is not one in the room.

I was on a business trip a few years ago and got a scare while I was in the shower. I heard a door slam and then voices coming from outside the bathroom. I can take care of myself, but what do you do when you%26#39;re trapped naked in the shower?

Turns out the door slamming was the room next to mine and the voices were from the TV. I guess the shower running distorted where the sounds seemed to be coming from.

From that point on I never walk away from my room without trying the door and always throw the deadbolt and pull the top thingie

(forget wat it%26#39;s called) locke when I%26#39;m in it.

When we were at PH in May, we had been back in the room about 5 mins when someone knocked at the door. It was security to tell us that the door wasn%26#39;t closed properly.

I don%26#39;t know if they have something that tells them when a door isn%26#39;t properly closed or whether he was doing his rounds and noticed, but we were grateful for the heads up.
