Luxor etc

Staying at the Luxor next Feb. for anniversary trip. Would appreciate comments from people who have stayed there. Should we skip a car and take a shuttle - really don%26#39;t plan anything away from the strip area. Any good free / low cost sights recommended? Also would appreciate restaurant and buffet tips that would keep the budget down. Thanks in advance.

Luxor etc

Stayed at The Luxor a little over a year ago. Played there about two weeks ago.

Stayed in a Pyramid room. Convenient location, cool theme, but a bit tired. Clean and comfortable though.

The Tower Rooms are nicer, but slightly more removed from the casino.

Casino is being renovated, but it is still pleasant. Don%26#39;t know if they will be done by Feb or not. Casino is a little old school (low ceiling, confusing layout), but if it isn%26#39;t your cup of tea, you can walk right over to mandalay bay casino.

Buffet at Luxor was disappointing. Went for a Saturday lunch and really didn%26#39;t think much of it. Other, better buffets nearby, including Mandalay Bay.

Good feature of Luxor is accessibility to other properties (mandalay bay, excalibur, mgm, nyny all easy to get to).

Rent a car if you plan on going anywhere off the strip. Otherwise, up and down the strip, you can take the deuce bus (if you%26#39;re not in a hurry, as it can be kinda slow). Or you can grab a cab.

I think the best low cost sights in vegas are actually free! Enjoy casino hopping! There are limitless diversions from free to extravagant. Wander around and see what strikes your fancy!

Have a great time!

Luxor etc

My wife and I stayed there 2 weeks ago and had a pramid spa suite. It was nice and clean but did seem a little bit run down, it was also real dark in the room with not enough lighting. The pyramid rooms would definitely be a lot closer than the newer tower. Like the previous reply stated, the casino was real confusing to get around in. We were there for 3 days and I never could figure it out...I ,was always looking for the signs for where I needed to go. I wasn,t real happy with the buffet either, seems like if I want to eat shrimp or ribs for breakfast, it should be there, when it is breakfast time, that is all there is...breakfast items. After 3 days there we did get comped for one night and we aren,t big spenders, so definitely get a players club card when you get there. You will have a good time ther, enjoy yourself and have fun and win a couple bucks I left there 2 weeks ago. LOL.

Thank you for the prompt response. Feel better about our choice after hearing from someone who was just there. Thx too for the other tips.

Stayed at the Luxor in March 07. I am one that enjoys the Luxor. We ate at the Luxor Steakhouse for our anniversary and we were pleased. The service was good and food was even better. We always stay in Tower rooms and find that they are extremely nice. The rooms are nicely furnished and the bathrooms are great with a large tub and seperate shower. We ate at the breakfast buffet twice with 2 for 1 coupons. They had a great selection and food was very good for a buffet. The casino is large with a variety of games. We enjoy the easy access to surrounding casinos such as Excal, MGM, NYNY, Mandalay Bay. We spent plenty of time south strip and would taxi to center strip. We have always found that the service is exceptional for a hotel this size and have no complaints. You and spouse should have a good time at the Luxor.

mgg42, you say the Luxor casino is being renovated.

Are the Egyptian figures etc. going out?

We are from the UK and stayed there last year.

Now I know that a lot of bad comments are said about this hotel but in all honesty for the money you pay we really could not find fault.

We upgarded at check in and for an extra $ 200 dollars we has a jacuzzi suite in the Pyramid for five nights.

Extra seating area, jacuzzi in corner of room overlooking the window, up some steps , two tv%26#39;s, fridge etc.

All clean and tidy, great room service and we did not find the casino confusing at all as after a day we knew where we were going.

We did have a hire car as we were on a multi centre holiday but we only used it once to go to the outlet malls as we did escorted trips to the canyons, we just walked or took the monorail.

Now I am a very light sleeper and we were on the 19th floor and the only noise I heard one night was someone filling there jacuzzi at 1am next door, no noise from casino etc.

Free drinks while we played at the slots and this was the only hotel we actually won at and we ate at the buffet for breakfast amd the cafe at night and the food was fine.

Please do not listen to the negative comments that some people like to write about paltray things as in the UK you would pay three times as much for a room as we paid for the Luxor.

Enjoy !!

Hi

I would suggest a lunch visit to the Wynn buffet. Had one this year and was impressed. We have eaten at lots of the average buffets and they are all much the same. The Wynn was way above them. It cost $21 plus tax. I would do it once if overall that%26#39;s a bit pricey. If you have lunch buffets and a smaller meal in the evening you will save as it is cheaper midday.
