Need some guidance from veteran Las Vegas travelers

My husband %26amp; I are going to LV mid October to fulfill a Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare demo weekend he said %26#39;yes %26#39; to a while back. We are staying at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club on the north end of the strip. We are looking to relax %26amp; have a few good meals with out taking out another mortgage. We do not like to gamble. How hot will it be then? How dressy is it at night on the strip? We might like to see a show. He wants to show me the Water Show at the Bellagio. We were not planning on getting a car. Please help, the last time I was in Vegas it was 1970 and I was a minor!

Thanks.

As far as Oct goes it will not be that hot. Wear whatever you want dress is not an issue in Vegas. I usually wear jeans and and a nice shirt. You won%26#39;t need a car. But from that distance to go to center strip I would recommend a cab.

If you are looking to save money, you may want to rent a car. Between the fare to get back and forth to the airport and back and forth to the Strip is will probably be cheaper. It won%26#39;t cost you to park - just a couple of dollars to tip the valet if you go that way. Self-parking is free and no tip.

If you are going to a nice restaurant for dinner, you may want to step it up from jeans, just my opinion.

The average high temps mid October- low 80s. But they can range from the high 50s to the mid 90s so you are going to have to check a weather site just before leaving. What the temps are one year has nothing to do with what they are the next.

Some people like to dress up at night while others don%26#39;t bother. You will see anything and everything at shows, restaurants, etc. from shorts to formal wear. Most people do wear clothes that are a bit more dressy if they are going to one of the more expensive restaurants. A nice skirt/pair of pants and a nice top will be appropriate for just about any restaurant.

If you don%26#39;t rent a car you are going to have to rely on the bus(which is sometimes crowded and slow) or take a cab to get to the more popular hotels and casinos.

Thanks for all the input folks. I appreciate it. What recoomendations for lunch/dinner out? Michael Mina? Hugo%26#39;s? the italian place w/the intials MAG? How soon should we book reservations?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I don%26#39;t have the answers you%26#39;re looking for, except to restate that there is no dress code for most of Las Vegas. Some high end restaurants state a dress code, but in one experience I had at Blackstone%26#39;s Steak House, enforcement involved having a patron turn around to be sure there were no offensive words or pictures on his tee shirt.

I did want to let you know there is a Meet and Greet of forum members on Friday, Oct. 12th at 4:00 at Bally%26#39;s Tequila Bar. Another one is scheduled there at 5:00 on Sun., Oct. 21st. Consider stopping in, if your stay falls on either of these dates.

I have never eaten at MM so I can%26#39;t say anything about it.

I have eaten at MAG( it is actually French-ish) and the food was o.k. but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed in the patio seating- I don%26#39;t like eating with masses of humanity walking right by me or strip traffic not far away. Some people love to eat there and look at the Bellagio fountains. I would rather eat elsewhere and just go to the Bellagio to see the fountains. I didn%26#39;t find the patio seating ';romantic'; but others have.

I do like Hugo%26#39;s Cellar. The food and service have always been very good. You will have to take the bus or a cab to get to it -it is downtown. To me it is worth it. Because of the salad and the chocolate covered fruit- you may not need to order an appetizer or dessert. I would difinetely choose Hugo%26#39;s over MAG.
