Monday! Another day, another $4.99 pancake breakfast!
After another ten-hour stint at the trade show, I returned to the Riviera only to realize that I was one polo shirt shy for my short day tomorrow. What should I do? Should I head over to the Fashion Show Mall? How about one of the ubiquitous tourist T-shirt shops? Oh wait a minute鈥?there鈥檚 a Ross store across the street! So I headed over to the national discount chain known for, among other things, off-season and discontinued merchandise and picked up a decent polo shirt for $11.
Tonight I was to attend two networking events related to the trade show. The first was held at the Platinum which, as many of you know, is a hot new property of luxury condos that are mostly rented out. Granted, this is coming from someone who has never set foot in the Wynn, THE Hotel or Four Seasons鈥?but I have to say this was an amazing place. The restaurant/bar that leads to the outdoor pool on the extended balcony was pretty cool. Then we got to take a tour of one of the sample 2-bedrooms and I was simply awe-struck by the amenities and especially the breathtaking view of the strip, with Planet Hollywood at dead center. I was pretty much ready to move in right then! I鈥檇 definitely splurge to stay at a 1-bedroom for a few nights if I were on my honeymoon. Okay, that鈥檚 enough before I鈥檓 accused of advertising! LOL
I caught a cab with a few associates and headed over to the Luxor for the next event at LAX, the brand-new nightclub that replaced Ra. As someone who hears a lot about nightclubs 鈥?especially those in Vegas 鈥?but has rarely gone to one, I was looking forward to having an experience for which I would otherwise have to wait on line for two hours or fork over $500 for bottle service. The club was cool in a subdued way although I suspect their playlist is normally more contemporary than the party favorites selection from the last three decades that was favored on this night. While this was the last hurrah for many of my co-workers who showed up for this event, I knew that my real partying was about to begin. So after about two hours (11pm) I called it a somewhat early night once more.
Trip Report - 9/8 - 9/15 Part Three
Hi, Tony! GREAT trip reports 1, 2, and 3....I can%26#39;t wait to hear more!! You have the best ';will-power'; EVER!
I go to Vegas thinking that ';this trip will be for relaxing'; and it NEVER fails....I%26#39;m up all night and just take naps basically.
Anxious to hear more!!!
Trip Report - 9/8 - 9/15 Part Three
Thanks TexasTeejay! I was determined to stay focused on the job and not get too distracted. Many of my contemporaries are a bit younger. So they either were able to balance the ';work hard, play hard'; mantra... or they received a learning experience. : )
LOL about those ';learning experiences!'; Mine happened on this past trip.....it involved a ';Diamond'; machine in the Champagne Slot area at Paris, and lots (I mean lots) of chablis! *ugh*
Yes, I too am impressed by your work ethic. But you have some time after the convention if my memory is correct.
TexasTeejay, that was a very funny part of your trip report!!! lmao
Okay, I had to check to make sure OCtraveler wasn%26#39;t writing this report about the Platinum, lol.
Nice that you could experience LAX without waiting or paying the price!
Real partying to begin?....tell us more ya dam# tease!
Wow! A real maniac on your third night, staying up till 11pm. How%26#39;d you ever make it through the next day. ;-)
This is a great read, very easy to follow. That is, when Low doesn%26#39;t throw us off balance.
I have trouble getting through the airport without gambling. No way would I make it 3 days on the strip without dropping some coinage. Now, let%26#39;s have part 4, 5, 6 or however many it takes to tell this whole story.
Camille
'; knew that my real partying was about to begin. ';
OK tony....that%26#39;s what I want to hear!!! LOL......
The Platinum sounds really nice....where is it exactly? It%26#39;s not directly on the strip is it?
I%26#39;m impressed with how you solved your clothing shortage...I think many guys would have just worn another shirt a second day! =)
Day 3 and still no gambling......I know you said in part 2 comments you weren%26#39;t a high roller, but you haven%26#39;t put ANY money in ANY machnes or stopped by ANY tables at this point?? You have the willpower of steel my friend! =)
TexasTeejay, that Champagne Slot experience sounds painful. : ( Tell us more! : ) LOL
The next part of my next trip report will be about half-business, half-pleasure. I%26#39;m anticipating about seven parts.
CO, the Platinum is on the corner of E. Flamingo and Koval, perhaps three typically long Vegas blocks east of the Strip. On a good day, you could probably walk to the ';hot corner'; of the Flamingo, Caesar%26#39;s Palace, Bellagio and Bally%26#39;s. And I%26#39;ve been known to wear pants and shorts more than once - and, in fact, I did, but I didn%26#39;t want to put off my co-workers figuratively or literally by wearing a shirt that had been marinated in dry sweat. ; )
